Concerning AI

2 min read
Gabriel - Terra's Gate

I've been noticing an increase of art theft in the later years, so I'm reducing the number of art posted in any on-line gallery each year.

Regarding the dawn of AI, I'm almost forced to pull out some of my original designs, even characters who are based on public domain counterparts.

AI can use and steal your ideas. As the example shown, I have Gabriel, based on a character from 3 different myths or religions My depiction of him is based on the traditional design, but there some physical traits that are my own signature, such as the wings or the marks he was born with, which are part of his story.

Like your family photos (yes new AI programs can make use of them, even if you tagged the No AI use feature), this material has to be protected, so I'm making, for the internet, only postcards.

If some of my works are at stake at any point I'll pull out any original designs from the internet and leave only my fanarts.

If you love art, PLEASE DON'T FOLLOW or BUY ANY AI GENERATED ART.

And, most of all RESEARCH the author so what you'll buy is LEGIT and not a FAKE.

People make this for money, as a hobby or because they love doing it . DO NOT RUIN THEIR JOBS or HOBBIES by SUPPORTING a lifeless MACHINE and it's GREEDY OWNERS.

In the last year, I've been pressed to change the way I draw.
I'm a self-taught, so in most of my years I've been learning things from here and there. It was good to meet some actual local artists, who told me how to fix some of my mistakes and do what people wanted.
One of the things I was pushed was to draw free-hand (thing I couldn't do without pencil and paper and most of my traditional work had a dirty, ugly finish). I took a small course of ceramics and I learn a little more about art teaching (In fact I learned art with an actual designer for the first time) and so, even it was a little too basic for me and took around a few weeks, I gained a little more control on the pencil and I got to practice a lot those teachings with my cintiq.
About my characters, I've been reading a lot my old writings and I found out my influences on the early creation of most of Orium Caspium characters. Using my annotations I realized some of those characters had a very different look at the begining or dressed quite differently. This made me change them into the look they were supposed to be at the first time, (the concept was created around the turn of the century).
The fist thing was to get a different style from manga. I don't use most of manga characteristics on my stories, like fan-service, early teen nudity (or almost nudity) or mascots. I was drove to arts because of the books I read or movies I saw... Manga style appeared as an initiation and was a good teaching at the time, but copying or adapt other's style is the worst thing you can do.

If you are a self-taught or are aspiring to be an artist in any area my advice is:
- go out and find some actual inspiration.
- Begin with simple shapes like tree leaves or small flowers, before trying animals or human shape.
- Make good use of anatomy and costume reference books.
- First pencil and paper, later... you choose what is more convenient
- And finally, but more important: DAILY PRACTICE!!!

Gallery Cleanup

I found a few works on my gallery that shouldn't be here anymore. So I'm erasing more than 3 year-old deviations with less than 5 faves. I'm doing this because I must have better works at my gallery rather than my old-outdated ones.

Is less than 1 month left to Halloween. This is the first year I made a full hand-drawn digital illustration with my new tablet (I updated my avatar with this year's Halloween girl, but the full drawing will be posted here later this month).
Next year I'll be focusing in fanart, since I'm writing an Orium Caspium book (can't tell if it is comic book) for the first time just for publishing. I'll be making fewer originals, but drawing more comics and game fanart. I'm also making tests with an hibrid of european and american style.

This is my halloween pictures since I joined DA. I hope you like it and see my progress over the years:

- Iban (international bank transfer)
- Western union
- Vale postal (só para Portugal)

Bullet; Blue One slot for each separate drawing.

Bullet; BlueI can draw: Original and fanarts.

Bullet; BlueI can't draw: Religious subjects, real people, heavy armour veicules and mecha. Pictures rated 18+ (I draw/write usually for children and teens, so a little erotic but not porn and some mild violence). For american comics, movies and Disney, I won't draw in their styles.

Bullet; BlueStyle: I will draw in my own style. I can't imitate other artist's style or draw realistically. I can draw in childen's book and disney-ish style but the result might not be as good as expected since I don't have the practice yet.

Bullet; BlueInformation: Tell me details about the characters. I can design characters for a game company or a book, for example, but I must have as many info as possible (even the height size of the hair and muscular porpotions, since I can draw from romantic novel to superhero type). For clothes I must have references from time period or story style (from steampunk to science-fiction and fantasy). The designs will have an extra payment depending on if it's for a personal (1€) or a commercial one.

Bullet; BlueSize: The size you'll receive in your e-mail will be 300dpi A4 in Png format (high-quality printing). The smaller version will be posted here (max 2000 px) or in my portfolio. The smaller drawings (chibi) will have a postcard size, 300 dpi png.

Bullet; BlueBackground: Only simple backgrounds unless special commissions, such as book covers and illustrations. Contact me for more info.

Bullet; BlueRights: You can print the pic only for personal use and not for sale. I won't sell it either, but i'll be posting here and in facebook but with your consentment only. For the Oc's, the illustration will have the name of the character's owner and mine (but only as an illustrator).

Bullet; BlueCommitment: You'll have to pay before I start the pic.

Bullet; BlueDeadline: After you request the commission, you must send me the info (one month deadline so I can start drawing it. You will receive your pic within two months (probably sooner or a little later, depending on the works that are being done, but you'll be notified as soon as I can start drawing, so you can know when it'll be finished). I won't ask for payment days or weeks before I can start drawing, so you'll have 3 days from that e-mail for payment and notify me if you want chages or not.

Bullet; BluePreview and changes: After you send the payment, an lineart will be drawn. When I finished it, I'll show you before I coloured/tone it so you can make changes or not. After it's approval, no changes will be made unless I miss something in the drawing's colour pallette.

Bullet; BlueRefunds and Cancellation: I'll ask for payment only when I can start working on the picture. Cancellation can be done before that. If you're not satisfied with the lineart, you can cancel your commission and get a 70% refund. No refunds will be done after coloring.
